No Discharge Areas protect water quality by preventing discharge of any boat sewage. Even treated sewage can contain harmful pathogens, nutrients, and chemicals. There are many reasons why a Cape Cod Bay No Discharge Area is important.
Education and outreach to the local communities on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are major components of our Soundkeeper program. Our goal is to educate and inform the citizens, who will in turn become stewards of Nantucket Sound and advocate for its long-term protection.
Over the past few years, Nantucket Soundkeeper has collected data from 16 monitoring stations around the Sound to gauge water quality.
The Soundkeeper patrol can be found steaming around Nantucket Sound all summer long- teaching boaters how to be clean, green, and responsible.
