LAWSUIT FILED ON BEHALF OF CAPE FISHERMEN LEADS TO NEW HERRING RULE A loophole that allowed herring boats to dump their catch without a full examination by an observer is now closed thanks to a lawsuit filed by Earthjustice on behalf of three Cape Cod fishermen. |
COUNCIL VOTES TO DELAY ACTION ON AMENDMENT 5The New England Fishery Management Council at its September meeting delayed action on Amendment 5 to the Atlantic Herring Management Plan, but did agree to look at a bycatch cap for river herring and the protection of herring spawning grounds. The council will revisit the issue at its meeting in January.
