Community Fisheries Education Pilot

Professional Development for Teachers

Join CCCHFA staff and Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve Marine Educator Pat Harcourt for a two day workshop that trains teachers to incorporate local fisheries knowledge into standards set by state curriculum frameworks.  No knowledge of fisheries required.

Last year's workshop, Fish and Fishing by the Numbers, was a course for math and science teachers of grades 7-10

This class highlighted math connections using fish and fishing topics.:

  • Fish dissection

  • populations

  • local species

  • fishing gear

  • economics of fishing

  • discussions with fishermen

  • visit Chatham Fish Pier

  • Estuaries and fish

  • nautical charts

  • resources for teaching

  • salt marsh exploration

 

Professional Development Points available.  Graduate credit from Framingham State College available for a fee and extra assignments.
