Educating today's students creates tomorrow's environmental stewards

Having stewards for the marine environment, particularly for fisheries, is so important to preserving our oceans and our local fishing communities.   CCCHFA has a strong program for educating students, both locally and regionally.  Below is a summary of our educational programs, with links to more complete descriptions.

School Program

We host field trips to the Shanty, where students interact with fishermen while learning about local fisheries, gear types, and management.

Trips to the fish pier, dissections, or any other topic you would like covered is a possibility!  Activities and discussions are age appropriate.

If you can't come to us, we can send staff and/or fishermen into your classroom for a presentation on similar topics.

Teacher Workshops

Join Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve Marine Educator Pat Harcourt for a two day workshop that trains teachers to incorporate local environmental knowledge into standards set by state curriculum frameworks. Contact Pat at www.waquoitbayreserve.org. Professional Development Points and graduate credit available.

Adopt-a-Boat

In conjunction with MIT SeaGrant, we partner your classroom with a local fisherman for a year-long fishy experience.

Northwest Atlantic Ocean Exhibit

Peak under the surface of local waters with the Shanty's 125 gallon aquarium exhibit featuring local groundfish and benthic critters.

Chatham Bars Inn Summer Program

CCCHFA has partnered with CBI to provide fishy activities for their summer program, including children's activities, weekly dissections, and pier tours.
