School Program

CCCHFA's School Program either brings your students to the Shanty or we send staff and fishermen to your school!

An average field trip to the Shanty is 2 - 3 hours long and covers the following topics:

  • History of fishing in New England

  • Gear types, how they work and why they are important to understand

  • Management structure and fishing regulations

  • Economics of fish pricing

  • Fish dissection

  • Q&A with a local fisherman

  • Visit to fish pier, hopefully to see boats unloading

We adjust the details to match grade levels and can add or remove topics if requested.  Upon special request, we can host day or weekend long events that allow for a greater understanding of the local fishing community and the impacts of management regulations.

Please contact Karen with any questions about our School Program or to arrange for a field trip or in-class presentation.

Coming from off-cape?  Cape Cod Sea Camps provides meals and accommodations for school groups, as well as additional educational programming!
