In 1999 the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association launched the Fisheries Reform Campaign to work toward the following goals:

  • Undersea habitat protection
  • Eco-system based fisheries management
  • Reduction of bycatch and waste in our fisheries
  • Promoting sustainable fishing communities
Developing first-class marine fisheries policy is a daunting task; however, successful legislation has stemmed from our philosophy of trust and collaboration amongst like-minded industry groups, conservation organizations, local communities, scientists, recreational fishermen and decision-makers. Effective policy is built on the backs of well-informed stakeholders that are capable of forging through disagreements to find common ground.

How do we pursue fisheries reform?
